Mr. Charles Howard Cockerham, Jr. age 57, of West Jefferson passed away Monday afternoon, February 14, 2011 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gregg Plott and Rev. BJ Grimmet officiating. Burial will follow in the Cockerham Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on Thursday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Cockerham was born in Jefferson City, TN on Sunday, November 1, 1953 to the late Charles Howard Cockerham, Sr. and Sylvia Galliher Cockerham. He worked for Leviton Mfg. before the plant closing. At the present time he was attending Wilkes Community College, where he would have graduated this May. He served in the United States Navy for 16 years. He was a member of Smethport United Methodist Church. In his pastime, he loved spending the afternoon drinking coffee at Hardee's and being with his friends. Mr. Cockerham is survived by a son, Michael Charles Cockerham, of West Jefferson; his mother, Sylvia Galliher Cockerham, of West Jefferson; two brothers, Ken Cockerham and wife, Carla, of Franklin, TN and Joseph Cockerham, of West Jefferson; a sister, Rebeccah Hunt and husband, John, of Lenoir City, TN; two nieces, Amber H. Moore and Casey Jo Cockerham and two nephews, Aaron M Hunt and Nicholas R. Cockerham; a great nephew, John Benjamin Moore also survive.
