Obituary of Banner Linville Phillips

Mr. Banner Linville Phillips passed away February 23, 2011 at Margate Health and Rehab. Mr. Phillips was born Sunday, September 12, 1915 to Joe and Ida Hurley Phillips. He was preceded in death by his brother Roy Phillips in 1950. He graduated from West Jefferson High School and began a long and varied working career starting in Winston- Salem. He moved to College Park, Maryland in the early 50's and worked in large animal research for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement. Mr. Phillips is survived by daughter Jakolia "Cookie" Parsons and husband Jim of Lansing; granddaughter Emily Parsons of Warrensville; grandson John Parsons and wife Nikki of West Jefferson, and great-granddaughter Anabell. He is also survived by sister-in-law Leona Phillips Price of West Jefferson, one nephew and one niece. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, at Boone Family Funeral Home conducted by Bro. Jeff Brown. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. preceding the funeral. Burial will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the West Jefferson City Cemetery with military rights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Museum of Ashe County History c/o Mr. Don Long, P.O. Box 1404, Jefferson, NC 28640.
