Obituary of Wanda Alexander
Mrs. Wanda Hardin Alexander, age 82, of West Jefferson, passed away at Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Alexander was a native of Ashe County, the youngest daughter of the late Millard and Lou Eva Goodman Hardin. She retired from Southern Devices as an assembly worker. After retirement she volunteered with the Foster Grandparent Program. She was a founding member of Midway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, A. P. Alexander, Sr.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by one son, Phil Alexander, Jr. and his family, wife, Alma, son, Russell of Morehead City, NC and daughter Lauren of Durham, NC; one daughter, Jeannette Alexander Key and her family, husband Eddie, and daughter, Ashley of West Jefferson. She is also, survived by one great granddaughter, Chloe Neal of Jefferson, one sister, Lois Hardin Jones of West Jefferson, and several nieces and nephews.
Her greatest joys in life were her family and her grandchildren. The family were the beneficiaries of many home cooked meals because of her love of cooking. She also loved reading and sports, especially watching the Tar Heels and Atlanta Braves.
A memorial service will be held at Midway Baptist Church in West Jefferson, on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Services will be conducted by Rev. Steve LeaShomb and Rev. Sheree Jones.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church Building Fund, 1670 Mt. Jefferson Rd. West Jefferson, NC 28694.
Interment of ashes will be done in a family service at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.
