Obituary of Donald L. Schurter

Mr. Donald L. Schurter, also known as "Dutchman" age 67, of West Jefferson passed away Friday afternoon, June 3, 2011 at Frye Regional Hospital in Hickory. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Roten and Rev. Warner Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the West Jefferson City Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00pm on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Schurter was born in Delaware County, Pennsylvania on September 9, 1943 to the late Harry and Dorothy Wynn Schurter. He served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He was an Am Tracker. He also was a member of the local chapter of the DAV. He was a Truck Driver for 48 years and worked for Vannoy & Sons Construction for 21 years. Don enjoyed watch the Atlanta Braves and wrestling on TV. He also worked in wood working. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry (Butch) Schurter, Jr. Mr. Schurter is survived by his wife, Carolyn Johnson Schurter; two daughters, Tammy Roark and husband, Ronnie, of Creston and Caroline Osborne and fianc, Stanley Parker, Jr. of Stony Point; a son, Dennis Osborne and wife, Denise, of Hickory, NC; three brothers, Charles Schurter and Bill Schurter, both of Pennsylvania and Howard Schurter, of Georgia; seven grandchildren, Dezarae, Danielle, Ryan, Jasmine, Gracie, Tristan and Andrew; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, local Chapter 80, 466 Ashe Park Road, Jefferson, NC 28640.
