Mrs. Rosa Calhoun Hoosier, age 80, of Jefferson passed away Wednesday morning, June 29, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Greer and Speaker Charles Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Friday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Hoosier was born in Ashe County on February 11, 1931 to the late Lester and Emma Carpenter Calhoun. She was a Homemaker. She enjoyed making and painting porcelain dolls. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Dale Hoosier on January 25, 2006 and two children, Margaret Latham and Jimmy Dale Hoosier. Mrs. Hoosier is survived by a granddaughter, Syndi Brooks, of Jefferson; a grandson, Chris Latham, of Winston-Salem; six brothers, Earl Calhoun, of Jefferson, Charles Calhoun, of Lansing, Paul Calhoun, of Maryland, Dan Calhoun, of West Jefferson, Albert Calhoun, of Wilkesboro and Bill Calhoun of California; a sister, Ruth Arnold, of Maryland; six great-grandchildren, Jamie Howell, Jacob Howell, Stephen Howell, James Latham, Fatima Latham and Manuel Cineros; several nieces and nephews also survive.
