Obituary of Elmer Glade Miller
Elmer "Glade" Miller, age 86 of West Jefferson, died Friday, July 1, 2011 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Elmer Glade Miller was born in Ashe County on March 1, 1925 to the late Henry Adam and Mazie Jane Barr Miller of Lansing.
Glade was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Group Leader at Sprague Electric Company for 31 years. He was also a member of the Lansing American Legion and VFW. Glade enjoyed wood working, traveling, hunting, discussing the latest in politics, and meeting his buddies at Hardees for their daily morning laughs.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Clyde Farmer and Ruby Coleman of Fries, VA; one brother Worth Miller of Fries, VA.
Mr. Miller is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Fanny Lee Carter Miller of West Jefferson; a son Allen Glade Miller and wife Mary Cox Miller of West Jefferson; two sisters Pauleen Miller Lynch of West Grove, PA and Joan Miller of Galax, VA; two grandchildren Scott Allen Miller of Hickory, NC and Mary Allison Shifflett of Crozet, VA; three great-grandsons, Avery and Andrew Miller, Spencer Shifflett; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive Glade's treasured family and friends Sunday, July 3, 2011 from 12pm - 2pm at Boone Family Funeral Chapel in West Jefferson, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2pm. Burial will follow at the West Jefferson City Cemetery. The Rev. Keith Elledge, Rev. Todd Brewer, and Rev. Larry Shepherd will officiate. Pall bearers are; Barry Miller, Tony Miller, Roger Miller, Ronnie Miller, Kenneth Seamster and Guy Seamster; alternates are Frank Ketron and Chris Spivey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Gideon's International at P.O. Box 993 West Jefferson, NC 28694.
