Mary Ellen Kiser Mullis, age 79, of Lansing, passed away Monday evening, July 11, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:00am at Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. David Lyalls and Elder Kenneth Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Goss-Stansberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Mullis was born in Union County on Wednesday, September 23, 1931 to the late Aris and Lessie Laney Kiser. She worked in a textile company. She enjoyed working in her flowers, her garden and canning the goods that she had produced. She also had a great love for animals. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lafayette Mullis on February 8, 1995 and a daughter, Norma Mullis Allen on March 13, 1994 She is survived by a son, Roy L. Mullis and wife, Denise, of Boone; a daughter, Phyllis Chafin and husband, Bill, of Waxhaw, NC; a sister, Joy Helms of Monroe, NC; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
