Bobby Wellington Cornett, better known as "Bob", age 85, of Creston, died Friday night, July 15, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 2:00pm at Sutherland Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Stephens, Rev. J. B. Shelton, Rev. Junior Seatz and Rev. Brandon Fries officiating. Burial will follow in the Cornett Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Sutherland Baptist Church. Mr. Cornett was born in Ashe County on Wednesday, May 26, 1926 to the late John Monroe and Rosie Belle James Cornett. He was an Agricultural Farmer. He was a member of Peak Valley Baptist Church. Bob loved to sit in his recliner with his cat, "Baby". He is survived by his wife, Darlene Snyder Cornett, of 45 years of marriage; a daughter, Janice Contreras and husband, Jose, of Creston; two grandchildren, Jada Contreras and B.J. Contreras; three sisters, Hazel Binkley, of Delaware, Celia Caudill, of Pennsylvania and Sarah Gouge, of Jonesboro, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the grandchildren of Bob Cornett, 20871 Hwy. 88 West, Creston, NC 28615.
