Martha Virginia Hodges, of Crumpler, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2011. She was born Tuesday, October 15, 1918 to her late parents Thomas and Ennice McMillan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard C. Hodges, three brothers, Russell, T.D. and Ray McMillan; one sister Georgia Voncannon. She is survived by three children; Martha and husband George Hammett, of Oak Grove, LA; Thomas and wife, Linda Hodges, of Milan, IL; Sarah Maurer of Youngsville, NC; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Ben McMillan, of Wilkesboro, NC and two sisters, Treva Stout, of Charlotte, NC and Louise Fletcher, of Roanoke, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lansing, NC, where she faithfully worked as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She also served in many other capacities of church work and activities. Quilt making was a favorite past time of which every family member was a recipient of a new quilt. She was a member of Nathan's Creek Homemaker Club and participated in the many county projects as well as sending packages to overseas service members. She was an avid maker of crocheted projects that included donations of homemade items to local charities and hospitals. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Senter Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, on Nathan's Creek School Road in Crumpler, NC. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 6:00-8:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Mom will be greatly missed by her family, friends and neighbors who unconditionally visited, helped and made everlasting memories for all who knew her.
