Mrs. Helen Lois Morgan Hartzog, age 89, of West Jefferson died Thursday afternoon, September 8, 2011 at Segraves Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:00am at Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Burleson officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Hartzog was born in Ashe County on December 13, 1921 to the late Jessie Marion and Cora Alice Bare Morgan. She worked as a cashier at the Parkway Theater and cook at Charlie's Diner. She was a member of Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church. She will be missed by her family and friends. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was known for her good cooking and her love for children. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Morgan and Robert L. (Bob) Morgan and a sister, Algene Davis Rogers. She is survived by a son, Keith Hartzog and wife, Phyllis, of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family requests no food please!
