Mrs. Kathleen Doris Miller, age, 80, of Lansing, passed away Monday morning, October 3, 2011at Glenbridge Health & Rehab Center in Boone. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00AM at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Shepherd, Rev. Charlie McCoy, Rev. Russell Sheets and Rev. Jim Greer officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30pm on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Miller was born in Ashe County on June 28, 1931 to the late Ira and Vada Thompson Powers. She worked at Jefferson Apparel until the closing of the plant. Then later at Margate Health and Rehab Center. In her spare time she always enjoyed cooking for her family. In her spare time she enjoyed reading the Bible. When giving advice to friends and neighbors, she went by the Bible. She was also proceeded in death by one sister; Pauline Roten; and one brother; JD Powers. Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons; Jerry Miller of Lansing, and Gary and Betty Miller of Jefferson; one daughter; Linda and Joe Greene of Deep Gap; One brother; Carroll Dean Powers of Aberdeen, MD; three sisters; Norma and J.C. Roark of West Jefferson, Louise and Jerry Eckard of Warrensville, and Irene Powers of Jefferson; Three grandchildren; Stephanie Williams of Troutman, Jennifer Miller of Warrensville, and Jessica Baird of West Jefferson; six great-grandchildren; one step grandson; Gregory Greene of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
