Mr. James Garfield Jones, better known as Garfield, age 87, of Jefferson died Wednesday morning, October 5, 2011 at Villages of Wilkes. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russell Sheets and Rev. Lonnie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell-Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Jones was born in Ashe County on July 19, 1924 to the late Winfield and Effie Howell Jones. He was an Agricultural Farmer. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lorene Church; two sisters, Irene Jones and Nannie Waddell; three brothers, Howard, Charles and Hoyt Jones. He is survived by his wife, Minnie Stike Jones; three daughters, Mary Sheets and husband, J.W., of Jefferson, Evelyn Bliss and husband Eddie, of North Wilkesboro and Lenna Faye Spears and husband, Jim, of Lansing; four grandchildren, Tanya Thompson and husband, Chris, of Millers Creek, Joanna Bare and husband, Michael, of Jefferson, Jason Sheets and wife, Amber, of Jefferson and Tommy Church and wife, Lynn, of Wilbar; six great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Clark Church, of Wilbar; a special caregiver of 9 years, Sarah Osborne; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the donor's choice. The family will be meeting at the home place at 2585 Bare Creek Road in Jefferson
