Mrs. Ruth Roten Calhoun, age 91, of West Jefferson, died Monday, April 9, 2012 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Roten, Rev. Fred Houck, and Rev. Dean Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30pm on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Calhoun was born in Ashe County on Thursday, September 23, 1920 to the late James Roby Roten and Elizabeth Roten. She was a member of Mount Paddy Church and also she enjoyed making quilts for everyone. She is survived by two sons; Joseph Calhoun and wife Ann of Michigan and Jerry Calhoun and wife Ruby of West Jefferson; One daughter; Janette Danielson and husband Matthew of West Jefferson; One sister; Jewel Roten of Todd; Four grandchildren; Joseph Calhoun II, Jennifer Heater and husband Roger, Lori Calhoun, and Leslie Calhoun; Four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
