Shelby Baldwin, the vagabond chef-
the kindest man I've ever met.
His voice was soft, his stature small-
but his "being" was, like the tree, mighty and tall.
Animals, not people, made his day-
He made no qualms about feeling that way!
We'll miss him warmth, his wit and his wave from the hill...
and the nights, without him music, will be painfully still.
To ease the loss, the pain and also the sorrows-
Just think of Shelby with Whisper, for all tomorrows...
Goodbye my friend!

My dear friend
Shelby's character was defined by his
sweet, gentle way with those he loved.
His furry friends and human friends

- The plants on the gate posts
- The little touches at the
barm
- A manicured yard in bloom
- Always a friendly wave from
the rocker on the deck
- A master chef
- The man who adored his pets
and respected his neighbors
- Such a kind and considerate
guy, always willing to do a
favor for a friend
- So Very Much More!
That was our Shelby. We will miss him.......

Shelby, Oh, how I will miss knowing you are on the Mountain watching over all who come onto our beautiful spot and seeing you on the deck with a wave as we leave to head home. Your wit and caring heart were huge, of course, you were the "tallest, best looking man" on the mountain. Give Whisper a rub behind the ears. We are better for having known you and we will miss you greatly.

Shelby was the first person we met when we came to the mountain. He watched over our house when we were not there, he shared his wit and his knowledge with us all. He is in a better place with his beloved Whisper. Thank you Shelby.

I'll miss Shelby's funny stories and biting commentary on the political scene. It was good to laugh and learn from such a gentle and generous spirit.

So thankful to have known Shelby. His seasonal decorations at the barn always brought a smile, especially during our Cruel Mountain winters. We'll miss our impromtu chats, as we often met each other while "walking the loop." We benefited often from Shelby's chef skills -- from teaching us how to cook a steak to sharpening our knives to enjoying all the wonderful goodies he shared during our many neighborhood gatherings. Such a kind man to us and to our pets, as he always made sure to have treats on hand for them. We'll miss the sound of birds at his house, his beautiful flowers, his gentle soul, ... and so much more.
