I think everyone wonders why such nice people as Marc end up being the ones that seem to have to endure so much. Everyone will miss him, former students, friends, his family and even those of us who were not close friends but were proud and happy to have had the priviledge to have know Marc Gambill. My prayers and sympathy are with his family and those close to him. I will remember him with fondness.

Mr. Gamble was such an inspiration, & anyone that knew him was truly blessed. He made APUSH bearable, & I will never forget his humor & wisdom. He was so strong & hopeful, & he always kept a positive attitude. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to have him as a teacher. I remember the day that he told us about his illness...he was determined to not let it get to him. Not only did he teach me history stuff, but he also taught me to not give up, even when the odds seem to be against you. Thank you Mr. Gamble, words cannot express how much you'll be missed.

Not only was Marc Gamble a great teacher, but he was a great teacher of teachers. For the past twenty years, Marc has been an essential part of the Appalachian State University History Department’s program to train Social Studies teachers. We called on him at every turn: to represent Social Studies teachers in our meetings and on our committees, to help teach our courses, to nurture our student teachers in his classroom. His passing leaves a hole in our program and in our hearts. Goodbye, good friend. We miss you already.

Marc was a great teacher, mentor, friend, and especially father. I have known the whole family my whole life and each one of them will do anything for you. I remember when Marc filled in to help during our junior league basketball season. My dad was in the hospital for a while and Marc was there to fill in. I know dad really appreciated that. I will never forget what a special man he was. Cheryl, Tyler, and Emily you will be in our prayers. Let us know if there is anything we can do. God bless.

Cheryl, Tyler & Emily...I was saddened to hear about Marc's death yesterday. He was a classmate of mine at Albertville High School. Although I haven't seen him in the 40 years since graduation, I have tried to keep track of him through all these years. The memories of our fun times, laughter, and seeing his mischievous side always brings a smile. I read all the wonderful comments on this site, and oh what a testament his life was. How comforting it must be to see these comments, most of which were from former students. The influence & inspiration he had on their lives will live for generations. God bless you as you are saddened, but also as you celebrate his life. I am proud to have been his friend.

Cheryl, Tyler and Emily, I knew Marc as a fellow student at Albertville High. What a delightful personality, quick wit, and optimistic attitude he always had! From "testimonies" of others who knew him more recently, it sounds as if he remained steadfast in his character, love of life, and devotion to family and friends. His legacy will continue to be
evidenced through the many whose lives he touched. May each of you find peace of heart and rest in the assurance your love and encouragment were true gifts to him. May God bring hope and strength to you now and in the days ahead.

Dear Family, I know this is a difficult time for you,but remember all your good times and the fact he is no longer in pain. I appreciated his help after Casey had her accident, and he allowed her "Johnny Appleseed" hat(a pot nailed to a board, basically!!). I'm sorry I didn't know of his passing earlier. I'm sure Casey would have wanted to attend the service. Emily, she still remembers your cross country exploits together.I still remember your dad's face when he came to pick you up after you guys tie-dyed your shirts in my kitchen!! I'm not sure what he thought of the dye on the kitchen walls, but he very kindly said nothing. Love to all,Donna and Casey Cockerham

Family,
I was trying to fimd Robert but the death of Mark found me firsy. With the exception of Mary Lynn none of you have ever met me. Marc and I met at Camp Sumatanga in the Late 1960's. We then had a long didtant relationship between Sheffield and Albertville. His death leaves a big hole in that part of my life. I was so gratified to read all he had accomplish and not one thing suprised me. He lived out the life of who he was as early as high school. Even it has taken so long to hear of his death. But know I am so sorry to hear of his death. I would love to what woods he is in, what river he is ezploeing and who is getting to have an awsome conversation with him.Bless you all. You did lose a great one.
