Obituary of Shirley Ann Miller
Shirley Ann Blevins Miller, age 69, of Jefferson departed this life on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. She was born in Maryland on March 14, 1943 to the late Roscoe Blevins and Ethel Hart Blevins.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 6th at Boone Family Funeral Service in West Jefferson. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 on Thursday, July 5th, also at Boone Family Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson.
Shirley was a faithful wife, loving mother, and a dedicated Christian who was always worrying about her family's well being and who put others before herself. Shirley graduated from Lansing High School and from Beauty School in Wilkesboro. For about thirteen years, she owned and operated her beauty shop in Lansing, "Shirley's Beauty Shop". She made many friends, while giving haircuts and perms, and they have remained her lifelong friends throughout the years. In 1977, when her daughter Amy was born, she went to work at Gates Rubber Company in Jefferson, where she worked until her retirement in 2008 and where she made many more lifelong friends. She retired to take care of her Grandson Cade, who was the joy of her life. She picked him up from school and cared for him up until the last day she was able to. She was very excited about her new Granddaughter Mia, and was able to hold her a few times before her death. When she had spare time, she enjoyed working in her garden where she grew many beautiful flowers. She attended New Bethel Baptist Church in Lansing, where she was a member since 1961.
In May, Shirley had a massive heart attack which she survived to see her Granddaughter Mia come into the world. The Tuesday before she died, she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer which was at an advanced stage. She did not have to suffer long as God saw fit to ease her suffering by taking her only a week after the diagnosis.
Those left behind to cherish wonderful memories are her husband Warren Miller, her daughter Amy Blevins and husband John of West Jefferson, her grandchildren Cade Blevins and Mia Blevins, her mother Ethel Blevins of Lansing, and her sister Linda Keys and husband Jim of Kodak, Tennessee. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123 in honor of Shirley's brief but difficult battle with cancer.
