Obituary of Nolan Hartzog Walters

Mr. Nolan Hartzog Walters, age 32, of West Jefferson departed from his life Tuesday night, July 17, 2012 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. An open invitation graveside service will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2pm at Dickson cemetery in Grassy Creek, North Carolina with Rev. Jack Miller and Rev. Peter Parish officiating. The family will receive friends at his home, 210 Wickzola Lane, West Jefferson. Nolan was born in Watauga County to Sally Hartzog Walters and the late Donald Kyle Walters. He attended Beaver Creek High School, class of 1998, then four years of college at Appalachian State University. He and his wife, Fran met and fell in love the summer of 1998 and were married September 4, 2005, subsequently being blessed with their three beautiful children. Nolan's unending love for his wife and children will forever be admired and remembered. Nolan was a strong, faithful, loyal, and a hard working Christian man. His work ethic, honesty, and Christian values will be embedded in the lives of his three children forever. Nolan was a successful self-built business man, having begun building his business, Circle W Tree Farms at the young age of 16. He knew the Christmas tree business like the back of his hand, offering insight and information willingly to anyone who called upon him for advice. Nolan also loved to grow other crops, having past potato, pumpkin, cabbage, and tobacco crops, as well as having cattle. He loved farming and working outdoors. Nolan was past President of the Ashe County Christmas Tree Growers Association and a past Deacon of his church. Nolan's unwavering faith was one of his countless attributes and will allow our hearts to be at ease that he is no longer suffering and is better off than we are in this life. May we find solace in the fact we will see his sweet beautiful smile in Heaven again someday. Continuing in the tradition of his willingness to help a friend or stranger in need, Nolan will continue to live on countless other people, as he was an organ donor and donated many of his vital organs after his passing to benefit those in need of life saving operations. Nolan is survived by his wife Fran Woodie Walters, of the home; and three beautiful children; Riley Sue Walters, Ellie Kate Walters, and Johnson Huck Walters, all also of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Sally Walters of Fleetwood and was preceded in death by his father, Kyle Walters when Nolan was only six months old. Also surviving are his sister, Donna Pierce and husband Andy Pierce of Fleetwood; two nephews; Andrew and Caleb Pierce; and one niece, Melody Pierce. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law and father-in-law; Tim and Sandy Shatley of Crumpler; his grandfather-in-law, James W. Johnson of Grassy Creek and countless close friends and loved ones. Memorials may be made to the benefit of Nolan's children, C/O of Life Store Bank, PO Box 26, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
