Roger Carl Sheets, age 88, of West Jefferson passed away Friday afternoon, September 28, 2012 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 4:00pm at Glendale Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Lloyd Day, Rev. Will Heyward and Rev. Jim Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in the George Miller Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, September 30, 2012 two hours prior to the funeral service in the church fellowship hall. Mr. Sheets was born in Ashe County on Thursday, June 26, 1924 to the late Arthur and Austa Farrington Sheets. He was also a Baptist minister. Everyone who knew Roger knew he had a passion for music and shared with everyone. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Miller Sheets on July 8, 2006; three sisters, Hallie Sheets, Zell Suite and Clara Bowlin; two brothers, Bain Sheets and Gwyn Sheets. Mr. Sheets is survived by two daughters, Robin Sexton and husband, Greg, of West Jefferson and Melissa Barr and husband, Rusty, of West Jefferson; five grandchildren Andrew Sexton, Matthew Sexton, Thomas Sexton, Avery Barr and Olivia Barr; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the George Miller Cemetery Fund, C/O Billy Miller, 636 Glendale School Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694. The family will be meeting at the home of Rusty and Melissa Barr at 02 Church Avenue in West Jefferson.
