Obituary of Ola Belle Edwards
Ola Belle Edwards, a loving mother and homemaker, left this world to embark for a heavenly one on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Mrs. Edwards perfectly exemplified a strong southern woman who always sided with values and ethics in all that she done while on this earth.
She instilled these same values in her family and everyone else who had the joy of loving and caring for Ola Bell.
When she was not tirelessly looking after the sick or injured at Ashe Memorial Hospital, she was caring for her family.
Her traditional Sunday dinner following church services was a constant reminder to all of her family of her unyielding love and devotion.
It was impossible to leave her table without at least two plates of southern style home cooking.
While she was never one to gossip, Ola Bell enjoyed catching up on the latest community happenings with children and grandchildren at any family event.
A member of Beaver Creek Christian Church in West Jefferson, Ola Bell would do everything in her power to make sure she was attendance for service whenever possible.
If accompanied by her grandchildren, who she greatly treasured, Ola Bell would make sure each child would not enter the church without a piece of Big Red chewing gum, and of course their winter coat.
When work at the hospital or her duties as a homemaker would not interfere, Ola Bell enjoyed spending the time playing church hymnals on her home piano, sewing, stitching up worn out clothing and catching up on the latest Lifetime movie.
When warmer weather permitted, her husband, Buren, in tending to their large family garden, joined her. A winter's supply of canned goods and fresh produce for her family was the fruits of her labor.
Above all else, Ola Bell valued the safety, health and well being of her children and grandchildren.
Her husband, Van Buren Edwards, precedes Ola Bell in death.
She is survived by four children; Roger Edwards and wife, Sherry, of Lewisville, Rose Hartzog of Laurel Springs, Robin Settlemyre of Laurel Springs and Rita Eller and husband, Junior, of Crumpler.
In addition, siblings Clayton Lemly of West Jefferson, Tracy and wife, Lib Lemly, of Fleetwood, and Ailene Young of West Jefferson survive her.
Grandchildren Matthew Eller and wife, Olivia, of Purlear, Jesse and Ashley Campbell of Laurel Springs, Mandy Shumate and husband Jason of Mountain City, and Jason Edwards of Lewisville survive her. One great-grandchild, Charleston Eller of Purlear, survives her.
Services for Mrs. Edwards include a visitation from 12 -1 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home with the service immediately following. She will be interned at Bethany Cemetery in West Jefferson.
