Mr. Paul Alexander Hopkins, age 95, of West Jefferson, the Friendly Grove Community passed away Sunday morning, February 10, 2013 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Edwards officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military rights. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 12:30 - 2:00pm at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel prior to the funeral service. Mr. Hopkins was born in Ashe County on Friday, May 4, 1917 to the late W.P. Hopkins and Rosa Winebarger Hopkins. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He managed the Western Auto for many years and later in life he retired from Southern Devices. He was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church where he served as, Deacon, Chairman of Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He loved to enjoy life and he was also an avid baseball fan. Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife of 66 years of marriage, Doris (Dot) Bare Hopkins; a son, Barry Hopkins, of Efland, NC; a sister, Gwyn Lewis, of West Jefferson; two granddaughters, Kelly Hopkins of Ramseur, NC and Stephanie Hopkins and her husband, Troy Coghill, of Garner, NC; a great grandson, William Coghill of Garner, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.
