Mrs. Eude Mast Moody, age 98, of Jefferson Landing in Jefferson, NC passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Moody was born Thursday, January 4, 1915 in Brushy Fork Community, of Watauga County. She was the daughter of the late T.L. Mast and Effie Harbin Mast. Mrs. Moody attended Boone High School and Appalachian State Teachers College, now Appalachian State University. In 1934, she married Thomas J. Moody and moved to Cove Creek. She opened a general store which she operated for 24 years. Her husband Tom taught at Cove Creek Elementary School until 1950. He preceded her in death October 27, 1958. Mrs. Moody was a saleslady for Caudill's Ladies & Men's Wear for 10 years. Dr. and Mrs. Newton of North Wilkesboro, NC purchased the store and she was manager of the store for 12 years. Bernice Bare bought the store and she worked for her for 5 years. She decided to go out of business. After Bernice sold out, Eude worked at Dancey's Shoe Store until late 2005. Mrs. Moody was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church for 60 years. She was active in the W.M.U. and was trustee of the church also a member of the cemetery committee. She served on the committee to build a new parsonage. She moved her letter to First Baptist Church of West Jefferson in 2005. In addition to her parents and her husband, Tom, she was also preceded in death by three sisters and their husbands, Gladyce Mast Bingham and husband, Albert, Earlene Mast Moretz and husband, Harrison and Flowers Mast Ward and husband, Gilbert; one niece, Elaine Moretz Combs; two nephews, Harrison M. Moretz and Harbin Moretz. She was survived by a nieces, Sandra Ward Harris and husband, Brad, of Braselton, GA; five great nieces, Kristen Harris Martin and husband, Bryan, Ruth Moretz Poindexter, Beth Moretz, Laura Moretz and Betty Combs; five great nephews, Brian Harris, Harry Moretz, Jimmy Moretz, Mark Moretz and Charles Combs. Eude loved her church and the warm fellowship with the "Taste Buddies' each month on trips. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February27, 2013 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of West Jefferson with Rev. Michael Lea and Rev. Dr. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Cove Creek Cemetery in Sugar Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral service.
