Mrs. Peggy Long Dollar, age 85 of West Jefferson passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2013 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Morris and Michael Lea officiating. Mrs. Dollar was born in Alleghany County on Friday, March 16, 1928 to the late Dr. Lester Lee and Lillie Tucker Long. She attended Appalachian State University and graduated from Lees-McCray College. She retired from First Union Bank, where she worked as a teller. She was a member of West Jefferson First Baptist Church. Peggy enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Harold Dollar (owner of Shell Oil Company) Mrs. Dollar is survived by a son, Larry Dollar, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Linda Dollar White and husband, David, of Greensboro; a brother, John Long and wife, Patty, of Belmont; two sisters, Lucy Miller and husband, Clifford, of West Jefferson and Louise Cashion and husband, Bob, of Cornelius; a grandson, Patrick Dollar, of Greensboro; several nieces and nephews also survive.
