Mr. William Arvel Pennington, age 72, of Laurel Springs passed away Sunday evening at Margate Health & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike "Cowboy" McCoy, Rev. Guy Testerman and Rev. Dominick Gaetano officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30pm on Wednesday at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Pennington was born in Ashe County on Saturday, October 12, 1940 to the late Walter Woodrow and Ora Blanche Colvard Pennington. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Mfg. Company, where he worked as a Supervisor of the lumberyard. He enjoyed farming and wood working. He made gifts and gave them to people. He was a member of Morning Star Fellowship. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Arvel and his wife would have a date night every Friday night, they still held hands and she called him "Teddy Bear". Mr. Pennington is survived by his wife, Shirley Brooks Pennington, of 54 years of marriage; two daughters, Lynn Cox, of Laurel Springs and Diane McCoy and husband, Mike (Cowboy), of Warrensville; two sisters, Libby Roark, of Warrensville and Mary Witherspoon and husband, Dennis, of Claremont, NC; a grandson, Aaron Cox and wife, Kati; a step grandson, Ethan McCoy; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn Rash, Kinsey Rash and Teegan Cox; several nieces and nephews also survive.
