Mrs. Opal Jarvis Bard, age 86, of West Jefferson passed away peacefully at her home on Friday afternoon, May 31, 2013. Mrs. Bard was born on July 31, 1926 to Kyle and Eva Miller Jarvis. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leonard Jarvis. Mrs. Bard is survived by her husband, of 71 years, Edward Ralph Bard; a son, Edward Ralph Bard, Jr. of the home; two daughters, Evelyn Reeves, of Crumpler and Janet Hicks, of Lexington; a brother, Ken Jarvis, of Tobaccoville, NC; a sister , Carol Winebarger, of West Jefferson; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. For many years, Mrs. Bard was a mail carrier for Fleetwood Post Office. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in West Jefferson. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Harless officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Sunday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
