Obituary of Jean Burley Powers
Mrs. Jean Weaver Powers, age 85, of Lansing passed away Monday evening, July 8, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rex Hall and Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Powers Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30pm on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Powers was born in Ashe County on Thursday, July 28, 1927 to the late Don and Ethel Pruitt Weaver. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and doing word search. She was known for her famous fried apple pies and pound cakes. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Edward Powers on December 16, 2001 and by a sister, Bernice Wyrick.
Mrs. Powers is survived by two sons, Rev. Jim Powers and wife, Shirley, of Lansing and Dr. John Powers, of Lansing; three daughters, Jan Howell and husband, Dale, of Jefferson, Joyce Boyer and husband, Dave, of Lansing and Judy Pollard and husband, Phil, of Lansing; a brother , Wayne Weaver and wife, Leona, of Lansing; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; six step great, great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
