Obituary of Barkley Moore Absher
Mrs. Barkley Moore Absher, age 72, of West Jefferson passed away Thursday, October 17,2013 at her son's home in Finksburg, Maryland.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 2:00pm at
First Baptist Church of West Jefferson with Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the West Jefferson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on Tuesday, two hours prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Absher was born in Greensboro on Friday, October 18, 1940 to the late Larry S. and Dorothy Wallace Moore. She graduated from Wilkes Central High school in 1958. She was a member of many clubs and organizations, but her favorite was being Head Fire Baton Majorette of the Wilkes Central Marching Band. She attended East Carolina University before leaving school to marry Lee and pursue her dream of raising a family. Barkley and her husband, Lee operated a clothing store in West Jefferson called The Jefferson House for 38 years. She was a member of the West Jefferson First Baptist Church, where she was also a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Numa Lee Absher, Jr. on May 13, 2009.
She is survived by three sons, Larry Mark Absher and wife, Vickie Sheets, of West Jefferson; Phillip Lee Absher and wife, Terri Arnold, of Troy, NC and Michael Scott Absher and Tara Church, of Finksburg, MD; a brother, Larry W. Moore, of Kauai, Hawaii; a sister , Patricia Foster Moore, of Marina Del Ray, California; seven grandchildren, Steven Absher, Richie Absher, Morgan Absher, Brad Absher, Madison Absher, Matt Absher and Caroline Absher; several nieces and nephews also survive.
