Obituary of Wayne Ford Weaver

Mr. Wayne Ford Weaver, age 84, of Lansing, passed away Sunday morning, October 20, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 8:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rex Hall, Rev. Jim Powers, Rev. Larry Shepherd and Rev. Brian Weaver officiating. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00am at Nella Cemetery in Lansing with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 two hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Weaver was born in Ashe County on Sunday, June 9, 1929 to the late Donald and Ethel Pruitt Weaver. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Wayne was a tobacco farmer and retired from NCDOT. He loved to visit the sick in the nursing home and he always had candy for the children at church. He was known as the "Candy Man". He left behind his favorite dog, Cookie. Wayne enjoyed eating at the Golden Corral. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Wyrick and Jean Powers. Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife , Leona Pennington Weaver; two sons, Carlos Weaver and wife, Linda, of Lansing and Tim Weaver and wife, Kathy, of Lansing; four daughters, Debbie Weaver, of the home, Patricia Weaver, of Lansing, Sandy Holman and husband, Joe, of Lansing and Carol Greene and husband, Allen, of Fleetwood; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted.
