Mrs. Norma Hartzog Yates, age 90, of Fleetwood passed away Wednesday night, December 11, 2013 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Steve LeaShomb officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Fields Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1-2pm one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Yates was born in Ashe County on Friday, April 6, 1923, to the late Turner and Hazel Cheek Hartzog. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil W. Yates; and a sister; Nina Edwards. Mrs. Yates is survived by three sons; Joel Yates and wife Phyllis of Fleetwood, John Yates and wife Vicki of Fleetwood, and James "Max" Yates and wife Cathy of Jefferson; two daughters; Donna Smith and husband Allan of Granite Falls, and Dianne Brown and husband Johnny of West Jefferson; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
