Mr. Burman Howard Maine, age 57, of West Jefferson passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Maine was born in Watauga County on July 28, 1956 to J.D. Maine and Irene Martin Maine. He was preceded in death by his father and a special brother-in-law, Gene Brown. Burman devoted his life to the family tradition of farming and raised tobacco, Christmas trees, and many other crops. More recently, he ran a logging business with his sons. He was a jack of all trades and, if something needed to be done, everyone knew who to call. In earlier years, he raised horses with his dad and loved to participate in horse shows and barrel racing. Most of all, he enjoyed making people laugh and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Maine is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty Farmer Maine; two sons, Brandon Travis Maine and wife, Aron, of Zionville and Brian Lance Maine and wife, Jessica, of Creston; a daughter, Brittney Rae Maine, of Winston-Salem; his mother, Irene Martin Maine, of Zionville; two sisters, Lena Bumgarner, of Creston and Nancy Brown, of Mountain City, TN; six grandchildren, Austin, Molly, Mackenzie, Marlee, Cameron, and Eli; and a special nephew, James Payne, of Creston. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 4:00pm at Friendship Baptist Church in Zionville, NC with Pastor Sam Icenhour, Pastor Michael Drake, Pastor Danny Farmer, and Pastor Jeff Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, December 29, 2013 two hours prior to the funeral service at Friendship Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
