Mrs. Viola Mae Groves Smith, age 91, of Asheboro, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 5, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00-2:00pm one hour prior to the funeral at the Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Mecklenburg County on Friday, January 20, 1922 to the late Benjamin Robert and Lillian Gwen Fisher Groves. She was a Beautician. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Billy Smith; three sons, Larry Smith, Crawford W. Smith and Paul A. Smith; two daughters, Gwen Chadwell and Nancy Smith. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters-in-law, Ann Smith of Asheboro, NC and Marianne Smith of Broad Run, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great, great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted.
