Obituary of William George Long
Mr. William George Long, better known as "G" age 96, of Glendale Springs passed away Saturday evening, February 20, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sonny Thomas and Rev. Ted Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-2pm on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Long was born in Ashe County on Friday, May 31, 1912 to the late George Edward and Flora Goodman Long. He was the owner of Long's Ham House.
Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Gracie Wyatt Long; a son, Clayton Long and wife, Sara, of Jefferson; three daughters, Marjorie Brown of North Wilkesboro, Virginia Stallings of Mooresville and Carol Bowers and husband, Bill, of Matthews; two brothers, Joseph H. Long of Cary and Rufus Long of Falls Church, VA; a sister, Marjorie Sanford of Susquehanna, PA; nine grandchildren, Tim Long, of Jefferson, Sandra Brown, of Raleigh, NC, John Brown, of Raleigh, NC, Randy Brown, of North Wilkesboro, Debra Scott, of Burlington, NC, Patty Ginocchio, of Monroe, NC, Billy Bowers, of Waxhaw, NC, Michael Bowers, of Charlotte, NC and Brian Bowers, of Charlotte, NC; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
