Mr. Joseph Greene Lawrence, age 79, of Fleetwood passed away Monday morning, February 17, 2014 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Shannon Critcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Fleetwood Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00pm on Wednesday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Lawrence was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, June 26, 1934 to Joseph Walters Laurance and Eula Gertrude Greene. He retired from Garner Mirror where he was a diesel mechanic. He was also a member of the Carolina Fly Wheelers. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty Miller Lawrence of fourty-five years; a nephew; Edward Laurance Brown. He is survived by one daughter; Donna Lawrence Brown of Wilkesboro; one grandson; Joseph James Brown and wife Mindy of Jefferson; three sisters; Reba Williams of Colorado, Lucy Brown and husband Raymond of Fleetwood, and Rebecca West and husband Donald of Virginia Beach; special friend; Shelba Colvard of Crumpler; and seven nieces also survive.
