To Paw-Paw's family and friends,
Raymond has been my best friend for 25 years. The first summer we met in '89, I worked mowing yards with him and Mr. Reed. He taught me how to mow on the side of the hill and how to use a weed eater. Didn't tell me my shoulders and legs would be so sore.I quickly learned that I had to up my pace to keep up with him so we could move on to the next yard. My least favorite memory; when my weed eater hit a ground hornet's nest and being stung at least 15 times. He took his hat off and started hitting me to scare the hornets. We quickly moved away. In those days he could move pretty fast when he needed to. Not one hornet stung him. We rested a bit, and got right back to work. He worked hard, but he made it look so easy, because he enjoyed it. My fondest memory, sitting on his front porch in the warm sun talking, while my children played in the creek catching crawdads and moving rocks. The many day trips we took over the years going to Maggie Valley, Santa Land, Cherokee, Pigeon Forge, Dolly Wood, Chimney Rock, Grandfather's Mountain, Linville Gorge and Linville Caverns will forever be cherished. He is a part of my family and my life. My family and friends here would go visit him on vacation. One time he came to visit me for a week. We went to Oregon Inlet, Wright Bros. Memorial and Jockey's Ridge at Nags Head. It was his first time on the beach. Raymond didn't climb the dunes but enjoyed watching the kids race to the top. Raymond taught me the backroads in Ashe County and he quickly learned where his brakes were. A many of times he has pushed the floor board of my car trying to put on his brakes.Through him, I learned to respect others but not to take any bull from anyone. He stood firm for what he felt was right. He loved bluegrass, chinese food and a good sweet cake. We had many conversations about life, news, and neighbors in the community. But he mostly enjoyed bragging about the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They brought happiness and enjoyment in his life.He was very proud and loved them all. Raymond never complained execpt when Ashe County got to much snow or to much rain. His smile, warm heart, sense of humor and his love for me, will be deeply missed and forever branded in my heart. To his kids, I thank you for opening your doors to me and my family to be a part of his life. May you find comfort in all the good memories you have of him. To his friends, I thank you, for taking time to stop and visit or call to see how he was doing and if he needed anything. He is very special to us all.

I am so sorry for your loss. Although, I do not know your family personally, I would like to share some encouraging thoughts from the Bible. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death. May these words give you a new hope.

Although we only knew Raymond these past 10 years, his smile will always be in our hearts! I cut my first cabbage in his garden; our kids know he liked and shared his sugarless candies; he was caretaker of our property and saw the 2 bears wrestling one October afternoon; he and Virgie actually lived on our property in a sawmill cabin when they first married! We loved to sit in his warm wood-heated living room and hear stories of his kids, 12 grands, and 19 great grands. He was so proud! There's that smile again :)
We are sorry for your loss.
May his memory be a blessing.
