Mr. Warren Hayse Houck, age 78, of Todd, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Carolina Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Marsh and Rev. Cathy Davis officiating with military rites. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Thursday, one hour prior to the memorial service. Mr. Houck was born in Ashe County on Friday, September 20, 1929 to the late Charles E. and Hollie Grogan Houck. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Marines after serving in Vietnam. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Houck. He is survived by his wife, Edna Elizabeth Kinsley Houck; two sons, Wendell Hayse Houck, of Chapel Hill, NC and Chuck Houck and wife, Bernadine, of West Jefferson; two daughters, Debbie Battle and husband, David, of Hubert, NC and Holly Winkler and husband, Jeff, of Boone, NC; four sisters, Hope Baker, of West Jefferson, Shirley Spearin and husband, David, of Forest Hill, MD, Jean Greer and husband, Kenneth of West Jefferson and Ginny Lynch and husband, Charles, of Forest Hill, MD; eight grandchildren, William Michael Zgieb, Joshua Joseph Hayse Zgieb, Lacie Marie Zgieb, Jennifer Ann Swieter, Jessica Dawn Root, Jacob Hayse Houck, Christopher Poe and Jason Winkler; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
