Mrs. Leona Wyrick Black, age 86, of Jefferson, passed away Monday night, May 19, 2008 at Thomasville Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Art Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in the Colvard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00pm on Thursday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Black was born in Alleghany County on September 23, 1921 to the late Benjamin Wyrick and Annie Bell Bare Wyrick. She worked as a dietitian at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She is survived by a son, Denna Ray Black, of Jefferson; three daughters, Bonnie Starnes, of Lenoir, Sue Morgan, of High Point and Joyce Ann Thomas, of Fairfax, SC; four sisters, Bobbie Black, Willa Gray Dishman and Burles Trivette, all of Jefferson and Demma Menton, of Wilkesboro; seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted.
