Mr. Charles Howard Cockerham, Sr. age 84, of West Jefferson died Sunday afternoon at Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 4pm at Smethport United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Plott officiating. Burial will follow in the Cockerham Family Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:00pm on Tuesday prior to the service at Smethport United Methodist Church. Mr. Cockerham was born in Ashe County on Thursday, February 26, 1925 to the late Claude Oliver and Nancy Elizabeth Weaver Cockerham. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Galliher Cockerham; three sons, Charles Cockerham, Jr. of West Jefferson, Ken Cockerham of Franklin, TN, Joseph Cockerham of West Jefferson; a daughter, Rebecca Hunt of Lenoir City, TN; two sisters, Jessie Cockerham of West Jefferson, Gladys Talbert of Eden, NC; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to International Order of Odd Fellows Chapter 38, Attention Scholarship Fund, PO Box 554, Jefferson, NC 28640.
