Mr. Ovid Orin Shatley, age 81, of Lansing, passed away on Monday night, July 14, 2008 at Watauga Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Morris and Rev. Joey McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell-Hill Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Shatley was born in Ashe County on Saturday, September 18, 1926 to the late Quincy Garfield Shatley and the late Dora Lucinda Bare Shatley. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II in the Seabees. He is a member of Zion Mountain Union Baptist Church. He was preceded by his first wife, of 39 years, Gaye Howell Shatley. He is survive by his wife, Eda Mae Campbell Shatley, of the home; a daughter, Kathy Shatley Dollar and husband, Bert, of West Jefferson; a brother, Jack Shatley, of Jefferson; a sister, Iva Flynn, of Delaware; two grandchildren; Tennille Dollar, of Savannah, GA and Trathen Dollar, of West Jefferson; a great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survives.
