Anne Phillips Myers, age 93, of Fredericksburg, VA, formally of Ashe County, passed away on Thursday morning, March 12, 2009 at the Woodmont Center in Fredericksburg, VA. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg with Rev. J. Larry Haun officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Covenant Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 18 at the Burkett Cemetery in West Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Myers was born in Ashe County, NC on Tuesday, October 19, 1915. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Jefferson, NC. In her youth she played high school basketball and was team captain. She was an avid college basketball fan especially of Duke, UNC, and Wake Forest. Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Myers Buchanan and husband, David, of Fredericksburg; her sister, Ina Phillips East of Winston Salem, NC; two grandsons, J. Randall Buchanan and wife, Kimberley, and John Alexander Buchanan and wife, Stephanie; four great-grandchildren, John David, Angela Hope, Samuel James, and Kayla Jeanne.
