Edith Uldene Yates King, age 81of West Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Field Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm Tuesday, prior to services at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. King was born Friday, January 23, 1927 in Ashe County to Charley Elster and Mary Elsie McNeill Yates. She married Hubert Howell King and they lived several years in Florida before returning to Ashe County. She was a self-employed bookkeeper and worked for some time in Ashe County after returning. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a devoted daughter, Nelle King Hayes. She is survived by a brother, Worth Hayes of Sanford, Florida; a grandson, Neal Hayes of Wilkesboro and wife, Jana of Wilkesboro; two great-grandsons, Brian and Blake Hayes, both of Wilkesboro; a son-in-law, Charlie Hayes of West Jefferson.
