Mrs. Gertrude Lee Gilley Pennington, age 91 of Creston, the Rich Hill area, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Pennington was born on Friday, February 2, 1917, in Ashe County to the late Henry Donald and Cora Jones Gilley. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Pennington is survived by two sons: Charles Pennington, Jr. and Max Pennington, both of Creston; two brothers, Thomas Gilley and Lloyd Gilley, both of Maryland; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 8 pm at Boone Family Funeral Home by Rev. Tommy Dollar. Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 2 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 pm on Saturday, two hours prior to the funeral service.
