Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Dickson Cox (who died in l999), as well as his sisters Blanch Cox and Mildred Sexton. He and Irene Dickson were married December 24, l940. They were sweethearts during high school.

Mr. Cox was born and reared on the farm in Grassy Creek. He and his mother, Clyde managed the farm after his father died at an early age. He especially enjoyed raising beef cattle and he grew burley tobacco. Dewey loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, made a profession of faith at the age of 9, and was baptized in the New River. He loved Grassy Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 60 years and had many wonderful friends there. He served as superintendent of Sunday School, deacon, choir member (some-times the only male member) and several other roles in the church. Mr. Cox loved people and enjoyed visiting friends: He never met a stranger! He had a wonderful sense of humor.
