Obituary of William Johnson Wyrick

Mr. William Johnson Wyrick, age 84, of West Jefferson passed away at his home on Friday, August 15, 2008. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Smethport United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Plott and Rev. Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Mr. Wyrick was born March 20, 1924 to the late Will and Pearl Johnson Wyrick of West Jefferson. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He and his brother, Dan, were merchants for a number of years prior to working at Leviton where he retired after 18 years. He was a member of the Smethport United Methodist Church where he had served as superintendent and treasurer for many years. He was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Jean Williams and two brothers, Daniel W. and Carl Wyrick all of West Jefferson. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth W. Wyrick of the home; special niece, Ann W. Burge and husband Louis of Fleetwood; brother, Frank Wyrick and wife Lois of West Jefferson; sister, Carrol and husband Ray Howell of West Jefferson. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and special caregivers, Ashley Osborne and Eloise Pierce. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smethport United Methodist Church, 200 Smethport Drive, West Jefferson, NC 28694 or to Hospice of Ashe, P.O. Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640.
