Mrs. Ethel Greer Matkins, age 78, of Fleetwood passed away Thursday evening at Forest Ridge Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2014 at 2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Rash officiating. Burial will follow in the Bentley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Matkins was born in Ashe County on January 22, 1935 to the late Coy Samuel and Nellie Jane Bentley Greer. She was a homemaker. She is preceded by her husband, Wiley Lee Matkins; three brothers, Junior Greer, Earl Greer, and Spence Greer; and one sister, Wilda Penley. Mrs. Matkins is survived by four sons; Jesse Matkins and Deborah of Todd, Robert Matkins and wife Debbie of Lansing, Michael Matkins of West Jefferson, and Cliff Matkins of Warrensville; three daughters; Dianna Holman of Fleetwood, Barbara Matkins of Fleetwood, and Janet Cox of Fleetwood; two sisters; Wilma Wilcox of Lenoir and Effie Penley of Fleetwood; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
