Mrs. Elsie Smith, better known as "Tootsie", age 84, of West Jefferson, passed away Friday evening, June 13, 2014 at Ashe Assisted Living. Funeral services will be Sunday at 4pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Charles McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-4pm on Sunday at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Ashe County on April 17, 1930 to the late Edward Stansberry and Sibble Barker. She retired from Southern Devices. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; Harold Stansberry, Hunter Stansberry, and June Stansberry. Mrs. Smith is survived by three daughters; Lesa Watson and husband Dan of Huntersville, Susan Trianoski and husband Paul of Mountain City, TN, and Jackie Johnson and husband Mike of West Jefferson; one sister; Dot Rizzo of Wilmington, DE; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
