Mrs. Madelene Elliott Barker, age 82, of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday morning, June 25, 2014 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve LeaShomb and Rev. Charlie McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Barker was born in Ashe County on Saturday, May 7, 1932 to the late Hazel Elliott. She attended Midway Baptist Church. She retired in 1994 from Blue Ridge Electric. Madelene enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers and cooking for her family. But most of all she enjoyed visiting with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother; she will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Donald Barker; a sister, Imogene Shepherd. Mrs. Barker is survived by a daughter, Sandra Barker, of West Jefferson; a son, David Shepherd, of Lansing; a brother, Bob Elliott of Statesville; a granddaughter, Dahlia Shepherd; several nieces and nephews also survive.
