Mr. Raymond Elliott Hopkins, age 79, of West Jefferson, passed away Thursday morning, June 26, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 3:30pm at Bald Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in the Bald Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:30pm on Saturday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Hopkins was born in Ashe County on September 25, 1934 to the late Vaughn Wyatt and Edna Hopkins. After working 35 years, Raymond retired from Thomasville Furniture. Raymond was a member of Bald Mountain Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, watching Nascar and baseball on television; sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and feeding the squirrels. But most of all, he enjoyed cooking out and visiting with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all. He was also preceded in death by a son, Eric Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife, Esther Holman Hopkins; four daughters, Debbie Lambert and husband, Anthony, of Crumpler, Vivian Goodman, of Warrensville, Tina Greer and husband, Randy, of Pulear and Teresa Welch and husband, Danny, of Warrensville; one sister, Ruth Billings, of Jefferson; two half-brothers, J.V. Wyatt and wife, Jennie, of West Jefferson and Gale Wyatt and wife, Peggy, of West Jefferson; a half-sister, Winnie Taylor and husband, Earl, of West Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Amanda Stuerwald, Christopher Shumate, Amber Welch Roten, Seth Welch, Coltin Greer, Dustin Hopkins, Avery Hopkins and Iris Hopkins; and a great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Stuerwald; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bald Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery, 1435 Bald Mountain Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694
