Obituary of Robert Byron Glover

Robert Byron Glover departed this world on Sunday July 13, 2014. Robert was born on Friday September 17, 1937 in Manilla, The Philippine Islands on a U.S. military base to Byron Asberry Glover (Atlanta, GA) and Margaret Oxley Glover (Nesquehoning, PA). He grew up in Ocean Springs, MS and graduated high school from Perkinston in 1956. He served in the United States Marine Corps until 1959. Robert received a bachelor’s degree in Radio and TV Communications from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1963. His eloquent speaking voice earned him a living, but his passion in life was for flying. Robert earned his pilots license in 1974 and commercial license in later years. He lived, worked and raised a family in Hattiesburg, Mississippi until 1988. From 1988 until 1998 he finished out his working life, while still making time for his passion of flight by volunteering as a tour guide each Wednesday at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL. Retiring in 1998, he returned to his home in Ocean Springs to care for his mother Margaret Glover-St. John until her death in 2006 (he still drove to Pensacola every Wednesday to continue his volunteer work at the museum). On January 1, 2007, Robert married the love of his life, and their mutual dream was to retire to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. In May 2010, their dream came true and they settled in West Jefferson, North Carolina where they have been thriving in their mountain life. Robert is survived by his wife Elizabeth Jeannette Glover of West Jefferson, NC; two daughters Beth Glover of New York, NY, and Alicia Glover Carpenter (Rob) of Moulton, AL; one stepson Tony Miller (Christine) of Pensacola, FL; three grandsons Byron Baker, John Robert Carpenter & Russ Miller; his brother Richard Glover of Paragould, AR; his first spouse Patricia Glover of Hattiesburg, MS; and several nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his nephew Grayson Glover (Paragould, AR) and stepson Harold Miller (Daytona, FL). A private burial will be in Glendale Springs, NC. A Celebration of his life will be hosted by his daughters in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on September 20, 2014. You may give the family your condolences at our website www.boonefuneralhome.com. Boone Family Funeral Home of West Jefferson is in charge of these arrangements.
