Obituary of Thomas Kenneth Scott

Mr. Thomas Kenneth Scott, age 91, of Ashe County passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 2PM at West Jefferson United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Perry Miller and Rev. Ben Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the West Jefferson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 12-2pm at West Jefferson United Methodist Church. Mr. Scott was born in Ashe County on November 25, 1922 to the late Earl and Ella Scott. He married the love of his life Marie Pierce Scott on July 16, 1941; they were married for 65 years. He was a member of West Jefferson United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards within the church. Mr. Scott was also a founding member of Ashe County Wildlife Club and West Jefferson United Methodist Men. He was a member of the West Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department from which he retired. Over his life he was an independent truck driver, and Greyhound bus driver. He worked for many years at the Skyland Post as Pressman, linotype operator, sales, and sports writer. After retirement he drove a van for the Ashe County Transportation Authority. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Pierce Scott and a special nephew, Joe Young. He is survived by three daughters; Mary Church (David) of Kernersville, NC, Tommie Kay Koontz (Jack) of Charlotte, NC, and Nancy LaPrad (Jerry) of Winston Salem, NC; a special niece, Aliene Young of West Jefferson; five grandchildren; Kenny Church (Terri) of Mooresville, NC, Monica Young of West Jefferson, Travis LaPrad of Winston Salem, Christopher Koontz (Erin) of Raleigh, and Cameron Koontz Anderson of Las Vegas, Nevada; five great-grandchildren; Tyler and Karsyn Church, Lauren and Sydney Neaves, and Henry Koontz also survive.
