Mr. Jesse Long Cox, age 89, of Jefferson, passed away Tuesday evening, September 9, 2014 at Margate Health & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00pm at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Sonny Thomas and Rev. Russell Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on Saturday, September 13, 2014, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Cox was born in Alleghany County on Monday, December 29, 1929 to the late Johnny Floyd and Cordie Wyatt Cox. He was a member and the Adult Sunday School teacher at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. He worked in a Saw Mill. Jesse enjoyed playing the mandolin, fiddle and the guitar. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Halsey Cox; two sons, Billy Cox and Bobby Cox; a sister, Georgia Hawkins. Mr. Cox is survived by a son, Johnny Cox and wife, Peggy, of Todd; two daughters, Judy Roten, of West Jefferson and Mary Cox, of North Wilkesboro; a brother, Dean Cox, of Sparta; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
