Mr. Delmer Harrison Miller, age 81, of Glendale Springs passed away Tuesday morning, September 16, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2PM at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Sonny Thomas, Rev. Russell Sheets, Rev. Ted Reynolds, and Rev. Frank Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11-2PM, three hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Miller was born in Ashe County on Wednesday, September 13, 1933 to the late Joe and Cordie Bowlin Miller. He was co-founder of Miller Brothers Lumber Company. He was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir director. He was also a recipient of the Long Leaf Pine Award in 1977 by Governor James Holshouser, Jr. Delmer was always a hard worker and never met a stranger. He was always happy and an enjoyment to be around. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Ward Miller. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Marie Barnes Miller; two sons, Mike Miller, and wife Brenda and Ricky Miller and wife, Elizabeth, all of Wilkesboro; a brother, Wade Miller, of Millers Creek; three sisters, Shirley Jones, of Glendale Springs, Evazell Crew, of Black Mountain and Faye Dixon, of China Grove; three grandchildren, Tabitha Garza, Tai Church and Janella Day; seven great-grandchildren, Tara Day, Kara Day, Blake Day, Katherine Elizabeth Garza, Emma Grace Garza, Grant Church and Jake Church; several nieces and nephews also survive.
